How to Join
After you've visited our church and met our congregation, we hope you'll consider becoming a member of Saint Mark United Methodist Church. Our church family always welcomes others to help us carry out God's work here in the Birmingham area and around the world!
Joining is not difficult though membership is an important commitment. All people are welcome just as you are. Please review the three ways described below, then contact us by phone at 205-822-5980 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org to proceed.
Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. Thank you for considering our congregation as your church home!
1. By Profession of Faith and Baptism
If you have never been baptized and you would like to confess Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, one of our pastors will be happy to discuss this decision with you at your convenience. If you have been baptized, but you have never had membership in the Church, you may be confirmed as a full member, professing your faith in Jesus Christ. Baptisms in any Christian faith tradition are recognized in the United Methodist faith.
2. By Transfer from Another United Methodist Church
Call our office at 205-822-5980 or send an e-mail to let us know of your interest in joining. A pastor will get in touch with you. It is not necessary for you to write your former church. We will handle the details of the transfer for you.
3. By Transfer from Another Christian Denomination
This process is very similar to transferring from another Methodist church. Since you have already been baptized and confirmed, these steps will not be repeated. You will be asked to take the same vow taken by all members of the United Methodist Church:
"Will you be loyal to Christ through the United Methodist Church, and through this church, uphold it with your prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness?"
If you are transferring from another Christian denomination that does not accept or recognize transfer of your membership letter, you will be received by a renewal of vows.
